New digital works...

Erlend

The end of an era, of sorts. Erlend, one of my favourite Norwegian names (also first name of the wonderful Norwegian writer, Erlend Loe), seemed to be rather well fitting for this lonely little chap. I like to imagine that he is travelling north,  just as I, too, so often dream of migrating to a much colder climate (and rain, please, we want lost of that, too). Eventually..

Perfect longing. The celestial sailor. And the elephant.

Something painful here also: endangered, innocence.

Miss Penfold

Another for the 'Book of Names' set. Miss penfold, with her asymmetric hair-do. A girl who prefers to live inside of dreams, hence the cloud-style ear muffs....of course!

Little Ghost...

.

I have decided to open a brand new little shop especially for my most recent creations. It struck me as a sensible alternative to clogging the original Art&Ghosts outlet with a plethora of brand new images so startlingly out of kilter with my 'trademark' style....or at least the style that most of you are so accustomed to.

So! Please feel free to have a snoop around Little Ghost! I thought the name to be quite a sweet little alternative to the usual, although the shop itself is still in its most fledgling-est of stages, I do hope to add more goodies to it very soon!

And yet more newness:

Winter Hearts

The majority of these new pictures are hand drawn, painted or illustrated, then later composed in photoshop. This curious means to an end appears to be my preferred way of working at present. Having experienced the urge to temporarily veer away from using photographs or digitally drawn media as my 'base' selections, these recent works remain primarily a mixture of strictly traditional media, combined, at a later stage with digital; for example, taking elements of an original painting or drawing, then re-composing them on the digital canvas.

This does not signal a departure from the usual Art&Ghosts style by any means (as I have mentioned elsewhere), but more of a desire to experiment, play, and make use of my new obsessions.

Studious Nature

Oh so very me!

I adore this concept; nature behaving oddly.

We Remember

.

And we do remember, don't we? Our connection to nature, the dreams of our childhood, that secret, essential longing to make away with the fairies... or talking animals, who make their homes beneath mysterious, thorny hedgerows that nestle themselves, so appropriately, beneath the most obstinately looming trees.

Flying lessons, of course.

Notice the little guy in the background....unlike his more accomplished siblings, he cannot take to the air quite so naturally, hence the pointed cap that covers his poor little eyes. One can only hope that he will soon develop the ability to soar, perhaps even more so than his rather proud brothers and sisters.

Becoming nature, i guess;)

The Lonely Swimmer

Some new designs:)

The Swimmer

Prelude to a painting. I have discovered that I prefer to take sketches into the digital playground prior to painting. I am also quite pre-occupied with line, shape and colour than the finer details of late. Musical spaces, sweet, muffled sounds, and the haziness of dreams. The little swimmer girl is suggestive of those silent, exquisite moments in life, in which every slight sensation can be contemplated, with pleasure.

The Make-shift Aurora...

.

I dream of creating a woodland orchestra.

There is a tawny owl which hoots magnificently, somewhere within the tangle of shadowy trees outside my house. This is the first time that I have ever heard a real owl hoot. A cold, primitive, soul-wrenching sound. And now I ache to become so beautifully lost within that sound forever.

The tawny owl would conduct my orchestra, see!?

One fine day, I shall create such an image, but until then, I am going to have to content myself with a ramshackle, make-shift Aurora Borealis, and a trio of bookish young ladies, slow motion surfing, forever, on a river of ice.

My love affair with snow continued. A whimsically obstinate salute to midsummer ~

The Red Ball

I am very much enchanted by vast, empty spaces at present ~ creatively speaking, that is. There is something quite poetical about the above image, for me, at the same time amusing.

'Why?' said the little girl.

The universe did not answer.

Or perhaps it did...
